Lily

By: Jaylynn C.

A lily is a flowering plant that belongs to the family Liliaceae. There are hundreds of varieties of lilies that can be found mostly in the northern hemisphere, Europe, Asia, and North America. Most species grow in temperate and tropical areas. The latin name for my plant is Lilium. Lilies need 6 to 8 hours of the direct sunlight a day.  Lilies need need sun. Lilies are very fragrant and are often used in perfumes. They are also used for fevers, childbirth pains, disorders, coughs, and tubs.

The Lily can be found in Japan, Asia, Europe, and North America. The weather that is best for my plant is sunny days and rainy days. The major stages of the flower life cycle are the seed germination, growth reproduction, and pollination. During seed spreading stages, the plant life cycle starts with seed, dicots, and monocots.

Lily can reproduce from the seed bulbs and tissue cultures. Other species of lily are odorless.

Tiger lily is a species of lily that is large, with bright yellow flowers. Similar coloration is typical for tigers, which is why this species is named Tiger Lily. Lilies most commonly mean devotion, or purity thoughts. Only white tiger lilies are known by their beautiful smell.

The most popular hybrids are asiatic aurelian and oriental lilies, but did you know that there are about 90 species in the genus lilium? Lilies come in a  variety of species patterns and colors. All lilies share a basic form. Lilies can look a bit different depending on the type of lily.
